A very special home, situated in Manoa with spectacular views from Diamond Head to Pearl Harbor. This was a full gut remodel of the interior. We worked with original elements of the home’s antique redwood, while embracing brighter tones to create a more modern feel. We scraped, sanded and whitewashed all of the redwood to give it new life and laid a single porcelain floor throughout the home. By running the same flooring outside to the Lanai we were able to create a serene indoor/outdoor flow.
The original exterior of the home had beautiful brickwork which we drew inspiration from, when replacing a wall in the original living room. We took down the wall which blocked the view, and instead created a column of bricks to mimic the original entrance to the home. The new columns gave the living room a new expansive view and added light to the once dark stairwell. Bringing brightness to this remodel was key when we turned the kitchen - once three small, dark rooms into one large, airy and functional space. Of particular design note are the bespoke lighting fixtures from Australia and Ukraine.
We used tumbled beach glass tiles in all three bathrooms, in a unique variety of shapes and tranquil tones of ocean blues. Smooth slabs of manufactured stone were used for the crisp white bathroom walls, making cleaning and upkeep a breeze. Paint throughout the home was exclusively chosen from Sydney Harbor paints, for a soft, special feel.
A whimsical mix of modern Italian, Spanish, and mid century furniture were used to compliment the original features in the house, beautifully marrying both old and new.
